A Grand Affair Under a Chuppah of Garden Roses and Hydrangeas

A Grand Affair Under a Chuppah of Garden Roses and Hydrangeas

Maggie & Jeff’s wedding during Halloween weekend last fall was an affair to remember, to say the least! In lieu of candy and costumes, our bride and groom hosted a grand and elegant wedding extravaganza amongst their closest family and friends.

The ceremony took place at the Touro Synagogue where Maggie & Jeff exchanged vows under a white draped chuppah adorned with a garland of garden roses, flat eucalyptus, spray roses, and hydrangeas.

WEDDING CEREMONY AT TOURO SYNAGOGUE

The celebration continued with a seated dinner and reception in the Grand Ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans.

FLOATING FLOWER CENTERPIECES

For the bride and groom’s head table, we created a “floating” floral centerpiece consisting of roses, hydrangeas, dusty miller, tulips and foliage that spanned the length of the table. Floating candles and a mix of smaller flower arrangements were also placed along the dining table underneath the main focal piece.

WEDDING FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS

Each table in the Grand Ballroom was topped with flowers, we designed a variety of centerpieces; floral runners, tall floral centerpieces, clusters of vases and everything in between!

CUSTOM WEDDING FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

On the escort card table, Maggie and Jeff displayed pictures of their parents and grandparents on their wedding day. Here, we designed a “family tree” with intertwined, cascading florals.

Jared & Lake’s Tropical Wedding at Race + Religious

Jared & Lake's Tropical Wedding at Race + Religious

They say New Orleans is the northern most Caribbean city and the tropical vibes from Jared and Lake’s big day without a doubt prove this saying true!

Their ceremony and reception took place at Race + Religious, a historic venue that features multiple restored cottages complete with carefully curated antique decor plus a fountain-flanked pool, two brick courtyards, and lush palms lit by the flicker of gas lamps.

See how the Kim Star Wise Floral Events team used the eclectic setting at Race + Religious to create this romantic tropical paradise for our grooms.

CUSTOM DESIGNED ALTAR WITH TROPICAL FLORALS

Jared and Lake exchanged their vows under this custom designed altar decorated with tropical palm fans, flowering acacia, spray roses, poppies, viburnum, roses, magnolia foliage, wild smilax vines, blooming forsythia and orange dubium.

STUNNING FLOWER ARRANGEMENT AT GUEST SIGN IN TABLE

Next to the guestbook sits a stunning flower arrangement of forsythia, orange dubium, tulips, hydrangea, magnolia, gerbera daisies, Juliet garden roses, eremurus, montbretia, olive foliage, ivory roses, jasmine vines and curly willow.

FRESH FLORAL CENTERPIECES AT WEDDING RECEPTION

Fresh floral centerpieces of camellia, hydrangea, olive branches, freesia, helleborus, flowering acacia, eremurus, orange dubium, spray roses, poppies, forsythia, gerbera daisies, jasmine vines and Juliet garden roses were placed at every reception table.

WEDDING CAKE TOPPED WITH FLOWERING ACACIA AND ORANGE DUBIUM BLOOMS

Even the four tiered cake was embellished with a simple bundle of flowering acacia and orange dubium blooms.

TWO GROOMS WEARING ANEMONE BOUTONNIERES

Looking as handsome as ever and blissfully in love on their wedding day, Jared and Lake wore classic black tuxedos adorned with anemone boutonnieres; one adorned with forsythia and the other adorned with fresh jasmine.

Our Floral Designs Featured in Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine

One of the biggest events we’ve ever been a part of has been featured in Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine! We are beyond excited to finally share all the stunning floral designs we created for Haylie & Bradley’s epic New Orleans Wedding.

From the beginning, the bride envisioned a beautiful and timeless garden party while the groom wanted a luxurious, over-the-top reception. And like all Kim Starr Wise Floral Events, big or small, we made this dream a reality that you absolutely must see to believe!

Their extravagant affair took place in the French Quarter starting with the ceremony at the iconic St. Louis Cathedral followed by the reception at the Old Ursuline Convent just a few blocks away.

Haylie, Bradley, and their 500 guests danced the night away under a custom fabricated ceiling consisting of 24,000 white tulips that were imported from Holland. The inverted garden of tulips took nearly nine hours to complete as each one was hung individually to the metal frame using toothpicks!

The main reception tent was completely transformed with an elegant mix of banquet and round dining tables topped with an assortment of flower arrangements including roses, lilacs, hydrangeas, and even more tulips.

While the inside of the tent was fully draped with linen and floral garlands consisting of white spray roses, plumose, salal, and white limonium.

Sweetpeas, roses, gardenias, stephanotis and other blooms wound around the six-foot-tall white-chocolate chiffon wedding cake.

Dressed in all white, Haylie and her bridesmaids exuded elegance. The bridal bouquet consisted of all lily of the valley. While the bridesmaids each wore a flower crown and carried fresh bouquets of white sweet peas.

Wedding at The Chicory Featured in Carats & Cake

Wedding at The Chicory Featured in Carats & Cake

Kim Starr Wise Floral Events was recently featured in Carats & Cake for Irene & Ricardo’s wedding at The Chicory in New Orleans. Irene & Ricardo flew all the way from Ecuador to get married in New Orleans!

Like many venues in New Orleans, The Chicory has a storied past and perfectly suited for our foreign couple. What started as a coffee warehouse in the 1850s is now an incredible event space with pressed tin ceilings, real gas lanterns, exposed brick and has the original beams.

We absolutely loved how the floral designs came out in this beautiful juxtaposition with hundreds of hanging Edison light bulbs in this cozy industrial, yet rustic space.

Wedding seated dinner at The Chicory

Suspended garden roses, regular roses, and spray roses, commingling with lightbulbs in custom designed wood structures that perfectly matched the interior of the venue.

Wedding flower centerpieces

Their seated dinner for about 150 people, consisted of rows of long banquet tables that were lined with flower centerpieces in different gold mercury bud vases and compotes, incorporating a blush, ivory, peach and burgundy color palette.  I used nerine lilies, burgundy spray roses, blush tulips, plumose, seeded eucalyptus, David Austin’s Kate Garden, ilse spray roses, pink astilbe and smilax vines.

Tiered wedding cake with floral bouquets

Clusters of David Austin Juliet garden roses, blush ranunculus, white anemones and ivory majolica spray roses dotted each tier of their wedding cake.

Floral wedding bouquet

For Irene, I created an asymmetric shaped bouquet, incorporating pepper berries, cafe au lait dinner plate dahlias, jasmine vine, astilbe, David Austin Juliet garden roses, ranunculus, seeded eucalyptus, plumose, and was elegantly finished with ivory silk ribbon.

Secret Garden Styled Shoot for Southern Bride Magazine

Secret Garden Styled Shoot for Southern Bride Magazine

2017 is off to an exciting start with news that Kim Starr Wise Floral Events will be featured in Southern Bride magazine’s January issue!

Last year, we were approached by New Orleans wedding planner Elyse Jennings to collaborate on a secret garden themed styled photo shoot at the Beauregard-Keyes House & Garden Museum, and we knew that we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with her and showcase our work!

This historic home is nestled in the French Quarter and surrounded by lush green gardens with a pristine courtyard that is a floral designer’s dream canvas.

Secret garden styled wedding shoot

At the center of the brick paved courtyard, the fountain is adorned with a cascading floral and foliage garland complete with blush and ivory spray roses, and crimson garden roses.

The iron archways topped with wild smilax vines and perfectly placed white, peach and blush roses create a picturesque background that completes the vision of this love affair between a bride and groom (by the way- they’re a real couple)!  They married in New Orleans this past February!

Even fresh flower bouquets made of ranunculus, David Austin Juliet garden roses, spray roses, hellebores, and agonis were tucked in the linen chair ties. Not a single detail was overlooked when creating the romantic setting for this shoot!

Atop of a golden antique barcart sits a three-tiered marbled pink wedding cake decorated with fresh garden roses.

Black Tie New Orleans Wedding featured in Southern Weddings

Black Tie New Orleans Wedding featured in Southern Weddings

Kim Starr Wise Floral Events was recently featured in Southern Weddings for Amy and Mike’s Black Tie New Orleans Wedding that took place in early summer of 2016.

This elegant affair took place at Il Mercato – a recently renovated Spanish style venue with one of the most beautiful courtyards in the city. We worked alongside Sapphire Events and many other local vendors to transform the space for Amy, Mike and their 200 out-of-town guests.

The floral design for this wedding incorporated a light, neutral color palette consisting of sahara spray roses, ilse spray roses, vendela roses and wild smilax and leafing muscadine vines that perfectly complemented the simple, yet romantic setting of this courtyard.

Originally featured on Southern Weddings — From Ellen —

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. Richard and I met in seventh grade when Richard transferred to the small private school I attended. We became close friends in tenth grade, but always dated other people. He was captain of the football team and I was the cheerleading captain. We spent a lot of time with each other, and even went to senior prom together! College found me at Baylor University and Richard at The University of Texas at Austin. Throughout freshman and first semester of sophomore year, we saw each other often, as friends. In February of sophomore year, Richard suggested that there might be something more than friendship between us. I agreed, but feared losing him as a friend if things were to go badly. Richard thought it might be problematic if, by not giving it a shot, we would both end up married to other people, and he would still want to call me every night to tell me about the funny things that had happened during the day! I couldn’t argue with that, so we started dating, running back and forth between Waco and Austin each weekend. We have never regretted going for it!
Tell us all about the proposal! From Richard: I graduated from law school in May 2014. One night in June, I picked Ellen up to go out to dinner. When we got in the car, I made up an excuse to run back to my house, and I suggested that she come inside. When we walked through the house, she looked into the dining room and saw the table set for dinner for two (which I had prepared), along with an open ring box containing the heirloom setting we had admired a couple of years before, with my grandmother’s diamond in the center. Ellen became a little hysterical, and kept asking, “What is going on? Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” Yes, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said, “Yes!” (For the record, I had taken her dad to lunch a few weeks earlier to get his permission!)
When did y’all get married? March 28, 2015
How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding? Our hope was to have 300 guests. Amazingly enough, there were around 350 people in attendance!
How did you plan for your marriage while planning your wedding? Since we knew each other and each other’s families so well, we were already ahead of the game. We share so many of the same values, so a lot of the typical compromises and adjustments were not really necessary. We did attend a wonderful marriage prep class at our church, in addition to excellent premarital counseling with our precious pastor who conducted our ceremony.
What was one way you saved money or cut costs at your wedding? Although our grandmothers would be horrified, we chose thermography over engraving for our invitations and save the dates!
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Enjoy every minute. Do not let anyone steal your joy! This is the one time in your life when it is okay to be a little selfish. You cannot please everyone. You and your groom need to have it your way, as long as your underwriters (in our case, my parents) are fine with your decisions. When we got engaged, my parents told me, “This wedding is our gift to you and Richard. It is about the two of you.” What a great gift it was!
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? We have bought our first home and look forward to starting our family in the near future. I hope we will always remember to cherish the simple everyday things that really bond and unite us as a couple.
